OECD report offers a roadmap to address employment inequities

The Mental Health and Work: New Zealand report, recently released by the OECD, has recommendations on the need for integrated health and employment support services.

He Ara Oranga: Report of the Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction also highlighted the importance of employment support, for those facing mental health challenges. The mental health inquiry panel received a draft of the OECD report and highlighted in He Ara Oranga that the issues they heard around mental health and employment, were also outlined in the OECD report.

Mental Health and Work: New Zealand is an important report to inform how to increase access to evidence-based practices in mental health and employment. It’s heartening to see both reports acknowledge that employment is a health intervention, and the crucial role of integrated policy, funding and service delivery approaches. We look forward to seeing the government’s response to both these reports.
